Mininetis used for SDN network emulation. It is implemented as an extension module in POX and RYU Controllers and is evaluated under different attack scenarios. Hence, the proposed algorithm is to resolve the problemofARPspoofing. ARP poisoning launches higher-level attacks likeMan in the middle attack, Denial of Service, and session hijacking. The two most prominent limitations of ARPattacks are - unauthenticated and stateless nature of ARP. In this work, a mechanism is proposed toimprove and eliminate the problem of ARP poisoning attacks.
However, the centralized control in SDN architecture is vulnerable to attacks. Simulations are performed using MININET SDN network emulator and Open Flow Pox and Open Daylight controllers are used in a hypervisor environment.The Software Defined Networking (SDN) is an emerging network paradigm that separates the control plane from thedataplane.SDN facilitates network management through simple, scalable, and programmable architecture. The traffic rate has been captured in S-Flow-RT analytics. Implement the design using network emulators Mininet, software router Quagga, and the open source controller ONOS. Legitimate and attack traffic has been generated using the tree topology. There are different SDN network scenarios will take place in emulation to observe the performance of SDN controllers under DDoS attack. The objective is to maximize the resiliency of control-plane structure in SDN. This chapter analyzes and investigates on the performance of control-plane architecture using POX and Open Daylight Open Flow-based SDN controllers under DDoS attacks. Therefore, as a result, network performance and reliability will be affected.
There are many vulnerabilities to a single controller in SDN network taking into account the cyber-attacks especially Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. In SDN, network performance can be impaired due to failure of a single controller and will cause suspension in network components and disruption in end-user services. Software Defined Networking (SDN) is a modern networking technology which aims to decouple the control logic from the underlying networking devices.
